Erotica is on the rise and people need a safe place to talk about these books. Erotica blogger Nyphomanic Ness has taken up the the cause for residents of the Norfolk area. The Norman Centre offers the perfect place; it’s clean, comfortable, relaxing and run by the council too.

The first 45 minutes of the session will be for women only, as some women have said they wouldn’t be comfortable to talk about erotica in front of men. So at 6.45pm anyone who wishes can leave, and those who are comfortable and wish to stay can, but have to understand that the group will be open to all genders from this point.

Each year the Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar (Birmingham’s monthly fetish market) hosts a fetish fashion show. This showcases an enormous range of outfits, materials and styles from the event’s designers, as well as people’s own creations. The aspect that makes this fashion show unusual is no professional models are used – everyone who takes part is simply a member of the public. This creates a wonderful atmosphere and gives the audience the opportunity to see fetishwear on a wide range of shapes, sizes and ages to really get a feel for how the outfits will look on them, and also encourages everyone taking part and watching that anyone can look good and feel sexy in fetishwear.

The fashion show has been an annual event at the Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar since 2000, and Freak Clubwear have been taking part for a decade, both dressing models and taking part onstage ourselves! Over the years the fashion show has included adult babies, pet play, lots of latex, all kinds of uniforms, naughty nuns, cross dressing, fairies, leather, and some just in body paint! This year was no exception, with an enormous array of different models, outfits, materials and themes, although at Freak Clubwear we did manage to introduce something new by having the first real dog in the fashion show. (A friend and regular visitor has an assistance dog, Taska, and as Taska accompanies her to all the fetish events she asked us to make a suitably fetish dog coat.)

Preparations for the fashion show started many months in advance, sorting out who would like to model, taking measurements and designing outfits that would really suit each individual taking part. Over the months fittings took place, music was discussed, accessories were added, outfit descriptions were written and people were put into groups to appear onstage. Finally the day of the show arrived and as well as setting up and running our usual stand of fetish goodies, we needed to organise 14 models and a dog – it kept us busy! Several of our models were regulars who enjoy the experience so much they have been modelling for us for several years in the show, so they helped those who were new and nervous. The top floor of the event was taken over by models dressing, people practising routines for the stage, people helping with each other’s hair, make-up and accessories with a great buzz of excitement. When I got a spare few minutes I ran through the basic commands I would need for Taska to obey me onstage and the routine I had designed to perform with the three subs I was going onstage with.

Once everything was ready, the lights dimmed, the audience fell quiet and the show began. It started with one of Freak Clubwear’s couples who regularly take part, and also run the meet and greet (at 12.30 each month they take a group of people who have never been to the Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar before round the event and introduce them to the stands and various people). They are a Dom/sub couple and had a great time onstage, with Gary undressing Dawn’s outer layers to a very revealing top that Gary had designed himself for us to make, then flogging her infront of the audience. This got everyone in the mood for a great fashion show and there was a blur of D/s couples, burlesque performers and belly dancers, with everyone having a fantastic time on stage. It was soon time for my first appearance, with my gaggle of subs. We went onstage to Peggy Lee’s Fever, and I progressed through the line of subs, using the first as a piece of furniture to sit on, using my riding crop on the next, and using the final one to dance with. We had a fantastic time, and as always it was over too soon. However I soon got to go on the stage again, but this time Taska stole the show in here purple velvet dog coat with corset lacing detail and I felt distinctly upstaged! She behaved beautifully – better than the submissives and coped amazingly well with the lights, noise and crowds – she loved the attention. After this I could relax and enjoy the rest of the show with the audience. I saw ladies in latex, human ponies and a ring Master with a human tiger, amongst many others!

After the show we had lots of exuberant models who stayed at the event for the rest of the day, along with many from the audience, complimenting us on our creations and browsing through the clothing rails. It was an exhausting day but so much fun – we can’t wait for next year!

Our customers, from all genders appreciate the variety of goods and their quality and price, which will be available at our comprehensive stand. There’s always something new at JDL.

How many years have you exhibited at Erotica?

Ten years that we can remember with many “regulars” that follow JDL around such events.

If returning, what were the highlights for you in previous years?

What new additions are you planning at Erotica 2013?

Better and more user friendly (though “friendly isn’t the usual description of such goods) bondage gear superbly padded for long usage. Also a new range of Harnesses, collars and straps in various colours for the men (not to be neglected at Erotica). I believe this is the first Evil Angel production I have reviewed so I have no preconceived ideas about the style of content of this DVD. The front cover alludes to the prospect of their being a bevy of ladies with natural boobs, some of them quite a handful. Nice!

It’s great to watch girls who haven’t given nature a little help, especially if they have an ample handful.  If you haven’t already guessed I’m a boob girlie, which probably accounts for my choice of this title for review.

Flipping over the DVD, case I’m amused to read about the inclusion of a motor home in the film and a promise of both erotic and funny moments. Sounds like fun, after all isn’t that what sex is supposed to be?

The DVD has a runtime of 152 minutes, which seems to be about average these days, comprising of 4 scenes or 3 long ones.  Confused?  I was at first, if you watch from start to finish there appears to be a smooth transition between the two scenes, which isn’t noticeable. However, if you select a scene from the menu it becomes apparent that they have been split, making 3 scenes into 4.

Therefore, I will for the purposes of this review, and to keep it flowing, write up the 3 long scenes.

Scene 1

The first scene starts with a mechanic busily getting on with his work when one of Rocco’s female friends turns up provocatively dressed in mini skirt, heels and open gusset fishnets. Yes, you get the picture.

At this point, I noticed that the set wasn’t really a garage as a climbing wall and watersports (not that kind lol) paraphernalia come in to shot. Nevermind – I’m sure he knows what to do with that spanner.

The cute busty brunette is directed off outside to where Rocco is attending to a beat up old helicopter.  It’s not long before he is distracted and fucking her up against the cockpit.

Whenever I broach the subject of feeling uncomfortable walking down the street on my own in the summer, I invariably end up sounding like an arsehole. Asking to be respectfully left to go about my chores in peace and quiet is, to many, asking for more than I can expect.

There are two occurrences that leave me uncomfortable. The first is the repetitious, daily remarks upon my tattoos. On the whole, they’re friendly and polite, but hearing the same statement over and over and over again is like some kind of incredibly mild variant on water torture.

“Such bright colours.”

“I like your tattoos.”

Repeat ad nauseam.

Even when I reply with a simple “Thanks”, an attempt to block further conversation, I often find more remarks ensue.

Sure, I understand. People are admiring the exotic. I’m an unusual customer, a reason for shop assistants to break their own daily habits of asking “Do you want a bag?” and “…your receipt.” Yet in breaking their own daily routine, they’re adding to mine.

So, sometimes, I play my tattoos down. I wear white tights in the summer sun in order to make my leg-tattoos less remarkable. I keep my jacket on in order to avoid my ¾ sleeve being on show. I wear my hair down to hide the pieces behind my ears.

And then I view myself from the outside. Why purposefully alter your body to be different if, in being different, you create your own social discomfort? Many would argue that I tattoo myself precisely because I want to draw attention to myself.

I guess I wasn’t so affected by the attention when I was younger, when my pieces were new and exciting. I enjoyed talking about them. I enjoyed discussing who I was with total strangers, explaining the personal choices that motivated the acquisition process. Yet now I crave a quieter life. I still adore my tattoos, but I admire them as individual works of art, not as identity markers or as a sub-cultural uniform. I grew out of that. When I got tattooed I didn’t realise I would. I didn’t realise this would become a problem.

I don’t regret having the tattoos at all…I regret that there’s no way for me to avoid having conversations about them whenever they are visible. I want to walk down the street without having strangers comment upon my body as I walk past. Therein lies the difference. As I’ve broken-in my tattoos, as they’ve become a normal part of my reflection in the mirror, I’ve come to see them as a part of my body, not a thing I’ve stuck onto it. So, when I’m asked about my tattoos, I take the questions as personally as someone may take questions about a prominent scar.

Apparently, if I look good, thus making me feel good, the price is that I have to be made aware of how other’s are receiving my appearance. Men objectify me and they make sure I know I’m being objectified. So, in effect, on my walk to the supermarket random men tell me they are attracted to me. They don’t know me. I’m merely a body. A body that they want. It’s horrible. It’s degrading.

My friend’s opinion on the matter was that she finds such behaviour completely inappropriate. That it’s disrespectful to treat anyone as a sexual object. She told me she often called men on their remarks, saying “Excuse me? What did you say? I think you’ll find that’s incredibly disrespectful and I’d appreciate it if you never spoke to me ever again.” She says this often works to make the man feel suitably embarrassed and takes the power away from him somewhat.

But me? I’m actually rather timid. I’m not sure I’d have the balls to stand up to someone in the middle of the pavement, when I’m on my own. And that’s exactly why I’m targeted, because I’m on my own or with another sweet-looking girl friend. This kind of objectification is menacing, preying upon the vulnerable and assuming that an individual walking alone is available for the taking.

I honestly don’t understand why people do this. Are they making a very inelegant pass? Do they think that saying things like this on the street will get them laid? Or do they think they’re being nice? I don’t know. Maybe I never will.

Am I taking it all too seriously? You tell me. Maybe the men are just having a laugh, or consider it light-hearted banter. I’d argue that so long as someone’s getting upset, it’s not lighthearted. Regardless of the intention, if someone’s behaviour makes someone else feel uncomfortable it’s inconsiderate and very not cool.

Another, more out-going, friend of mine has no patience for my complaints about ‘Hey, Sexy!’ comments. She says she doesn’t have men shout at her any more (she thinks it’s because she’s older, I think it’s because she has an aura of a Goddess about her). She misses it. She misses the confirmation that she’s attractive and desirable. Honestly, if I could, I’d trade with her in an instant.

So, summer, here I am, ready for battle. I intend to wear maxi-dresses to hide my tattoos – at least that makes a little more sense than tights. And, as for the gross, sleazy comments, I’ll stick to wearing my headphones everywhere. Hear no evil, see no evil.

What new additions are you hoping for at Erotica 2013?

If you were running a marathon, you’d warm up before you began. If you were about to fight in a boxing match you’d swing your arms, shadow-box, or prepare your body for the onslaught of the forthcoming physical assault. If you were about to audition for a dancing role on stage, you’d stretch and limber up your muscles.

Warming up is a natural and important part of these activities.

And yet, when anyone suggests warming up exercises in writing classes, the idea is treated as though it’s a nuisance. Why do we need to warm up? What’s the point? Doesn’t it intrude on the time we’ve allocated for our writing?

However, although it can be viewed as an intrusion and inconvenience, especially when writing time limited, a short warm-up routine can benefit every writer, develop their efficiency and help to improve the quality of the material they produce. Below are five types of exercise a writer can use to warm up before any period of extended writing.

1)    Write a ‘Things to Do’ list.

If the font of your imagination isn’t overflowing, write a list of all the things you have to do. It’s a useful exercise because it reminds you what needs to be done and it gets you into the habit of putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

2)    Write down a list of writing goals. In your fiction this could be an anticipated word count, it could be the completion of a chapter, or it could be the introduction of a character or the development of a plot twist. Writing down goals allows us to focus on what we want to achieve and it can help to remind us about our priorities.

3)    Write a haiku. Seventeen syllables of thought-focusing poetry. How often, as a writer, do you think about the number of syllables you use in a sentence? The limitations of a haiku require a disciplined mindset that continues to be indispensible when you’ve moved past the warm-up exercise and moved on to the real challenge of writing.

4)    Write a limerick. There was a young man from Nantucket… Or from anywhere you want. Learn the limerick form and go on to produce a rude, bawdy, whimsical or nonsensical limerick before you start your day’s writing session. Whereas a haiku will get you focusing on syllables, a limerick will get a writer focusing on rhyme.

5)    Write an alphabetical sentence. This is simply a sentence where each word begins with the next letter of the alphabet. Ashley buys chocolate; doesn’t eat fudge; gets hot if Jesus kills lepers most nights; often people query red soldiers to understand very wild xenophobic young zookeepers.

Admittedly, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. But it’s got me thinking about words in a different way to my usual approach, and that’s always a good way to promote innovative writing.

As with the haiku and the limerick, this exercise gets a writer thinking about words in a different way. This is like the idea in the original Karate Kid movie with his wipe on/wipe off exercises. This is how to build up strengths as a writer.

Next time you’re settling down for an extended writing session, take five or ten minutes to try one of the aforementioned exercises and see if it helps to produce an improvement in your writing.

So far in my monthly Erotica review of Xcite Books novels I’ve been able to maintain a degree of professionalism, providing you with a slightly personal yet fundamentally non-biased opinion of the erotic manuscripts kindly forwarded to me… With, KD Grace’s Elemental Fire however, the “cool points” (as they say) flew out the window.

From a very early age I’ve tenderly nursed a passion for anything remotely Carpathian or of the mythological occult. Whilst my classmate’s daydreamed of being in Bucks Fizz I was diligently building a shrine to my VHS copy of Hammer Horror’s The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1974) starring the then pin-up, soon to be national treasure, Joanna Lumley.

This, along with my penchant for Mummy Seymour’s collection of Mills & Boon romantic fiction, clearly defined my love for a large slice of steamy mysticism. And Elemental Fire, with its romantic love letters to the Lake District, lusty fire demons, withering witches and revenge obsessed sex magic had me from page two.

The third and final installment of The Lakeland Heatwave Erotic Trilogy opens with an establishing back track seven years. KD Grace exercises her dulcet repartee like literary foreplay, reminding and welcoming the reader back into the already established esoteric Dream World where currently, protagonist and antihero, Kennet Lucian lies in mortal peril; preparing to enter a covenant with a fiercely sensual fire demon.

And from thereon in the delicious narrative delicately unfolds to reveal a hauntingly erotic tale of revenge, regret, betrayal, passion and romance.

The unique beauty of the story manifests in the fact that a conversation on the very real subject of love, lost love, and the concept of loving again occurs before any penetrative act of intercourse; and this insight into the main characters motivation, thought process and inner conflict made him utterly believable and somewhat attractive!

That being said, this novel contains the most sensuous sequences of lovemaking I’ve yet read in my position as Erotic Fiction Reviewer.

Evidence of this can be found at Chapter Ten where, Cassandra the succubus and Anderson, the ghost-turned-flesh share an impassioned embrace that plays out at an excruciatingly arousing pace and in the process allows readers to bask in the ethereal ambience; reminding this erotic critic simultaneously of character driven cinematic masterpieces such as, Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris (1972) and environmentally atmospheric Eastern gems, such as, Noribumi Suzuki’s notorious sexploitation thriller Star of David: Hunting for Beautiful Girls (1979) which pays as much attention to natures beauty as to its brutally misogynistic subject matter.

Indeed, in Elemental Fire KD Grace indulges us with her sumptuous descriptions of picture postcard backdrops, gratifies ones desire for fantastical yet convincing, totally original fiction and satisfies the ravenousness appetite for erotic text with tantalizing aptitude. Truly, my only regret upon finishing this novel was that I hadn’t read the first two editions beforehand! In summation; Sweeties says, The Lakeland Heatwave Series is a must, must read!..
